From the producers of 365 Days: A Year in Happy Valley and The Joe We Know comes The People’s Joe: A Tribute in Film and Form.  This is the story of Joe Paterno told by those who knew him well and those who knew him only by name, or “JoePa.”  It is the people’s story.

Centered around the family kitchen table, a symbol of stability in the otherwise busy and ever-changing world of a college football coach, The People’s Joe will feature several narratives, including stories of independent groups who have been working on Paterno tributes since his death.   By giving the public a platform and the chance to gather around this iconic table to discuss the man that was, these anecdotes will form a narrative of his life.

The film will be released on DVD on November 9, 2014, with a portion of DVD sales going to support the “Joe’s Bench – A Bronze Tribute” statue campaign.

WHY WE NEED SUPPORT

From The Great Depression to The Grand Experiment, this is the story of Joe Paterno told by those who knew him well and those who knew him only by name, or “JoePa.”  It is the people’s story.

Our goal as filmmakers is to create a platform for people to continue Joe’s legacy.  We want to ensure everyone who engages with this project of one thing:  our goal is to focus on Joe Paterno the man; how his impact on those who knew him well, and those who knew him only from afar, formed a sense of Joe as a father-figure for many, as the head of a very large community of people, bound by the common thread of Penn State.

We will begin shooting in May and finish in September. We will have only two months to edit and finalize the film. The release date is set for November 9, 2014. Our total budget for the film is $280,000. Thank you to all of those who helped us to successfully raise $50,000 during our Kickstarter campaign so that production can begin and we can start filming your stories. Because this is the people’s story, no donation is too small.  We are looking to create a piece of history supported not by one big institution, but by the efforts of tens, hundreds, thousands…  This man’s story was not merely that of a great football coach, but that of a man who was both the first of his kind, and the last of his kind.
